The two-part episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, “The Best of Both Worlds,” had a showing in American movie theaters recently, as a tie-in with the remastering of the old 1980s/90s television program in high-definition. The episodes cover the second and most important encounter of the Enterprise with the Borg, a collective of diverse races that have been absorbed, deracinated, and assimilated via an intrusive array of technological implants that reduces them to cogs in a “cloud”-like mass consciousness of undifferentiated drones. American Student Punished for Refusing to Recite Mexican Pledge

A Texas high school student has filed a federal lawsuit against her school and her teachers after she was punished for refusing to salute and recite the Mexican pledge of allegiance. The Thomas More Law Center filed the suit on behalf of Brenda Brinsdon alleging the McAllen Independent School District violated the 15-year-old girl’s constitutional rights when she was forced to recite the Mexican pledge and sing the Mexican national anthem. Majoring in Minors: Turning U.S. Schools Into Totalitarian Enclaves
