Flying Used to Be Fun
I don’t like to think that I can be manipulated by the fear mongers. But the truth is, when someone plants an idea or an image in one’s psyche, it is hard not to let that idea or image impact one’s thinking or even how one sees the world. Fear is a tremendously powerful tool for controlling people. Those who would control other people have known this for centuries. But it is only powerful to the extent that it gets us to abdicate our own powers of reason. We can remain viscerally fearful of terrorism – even irrationally so – and yet not accept the reasoning put forth by the fear mongers, nor the “solutions” that are their true aim. http://lewrockwell.com/shaffer-br/shaffer-br14.1.html

Super Bowl Fans to Face Mandatory TSA Patdowns
Fans attending this year’s Super Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans will be “watched, sniffed and pawed,” as well as receiving mandatory TSA pat downs as they enter the stadium. The Super Bowl’s designation as a level one National Special Security Event (NSSE) means that the spectacle is now an annual showcase for America’s post-9/11 descent into a security-obsessed police state, despite the fact that statistically, Americans are more likely to be killed by peanut allergies, bee stings and bath tubs than they are by terrorists. http://www.infowars.com/super-bowl-fans-to-face-mandatory-tsa-pat-downs/

Invasion of the Body Searchers: The Loss of Bodily Integrity in an Emerging Police State
If you want a recipe for disaster, take police officers hyped up on their own authority and the power of the badge, throw in a few court rulings suggesting that security takes precedence over individual rights, set it against a backdrop of endless wars and militarized law enforcement, and then add to the mix a populace distracted by entertainment, out of touch with the workings of their government, and more inclined to let a few sorry souls suffer injustice than to challenge the status quo. The resulting concoction, I can promise you, will be a messy, noxious stew unfit for consumption, miserable to digest and with after-effects that will leave you reeling and clutching your stomach in dismay. Such is the nature of life in the emerging police state that is America today, where roadside police stops have devolved into government-sanctioned exercises in humiliation and degradation with a complete disregard for privacy and human dignity. http://lewrockwell.com/whitehead/whitehead68.1.html

Airport Security is Killing Us
The attention paid to terrorism in the U.S. is considerably out of proportion to the relative threat it presents. That’s especially true when it comes to Islamic-extremist terror. Of the 150,000 murders in the U.S. between 9/11 and the end of 2010, Islamic extremism accounted for fewer than three dozen. Since 2000, the chance that a resident of the U.S. would die in a terrorist attack was one in 3.5 million, according to John Mueller and Mark Stewart of Ohio State and the University of Newcastle, respectively. In fact, extremist Islamic terrorism resulted in just 200 to 400 deaths worldwide outside the war zones of Afghanistan and Iraq—the same number, Mueller noted in a 2011 report, as die in bathtubs in the U.S. alone each year. Yet the TSA still commands a budget of nearly $8 billion—which is why the agency is left with too many officers and not enough to do. The TSA’s “Top Good Catches of 2011,” reported on its blog, did include 1,200 firearms and—their top find—a single batch of C4 explosives (though those were discovered only on the return flight). A longer list of TSA’s confiscations would include a G.I. Joe action doll’s 4-inch plastic rifle (“it’s a replica”) and a light saber. And needless to say, the TSA didn’t spot a single terrorist trying to board an airline in the U.S., notes Bruce Schneier. http://mobile.businessweek.com/articles/2012-11-18/how-airport-security-is-killing-us

TSA Backlash Prompts Move Away From Patdowns
Following a massive nationwide backlash, the TSA looks set to move away from invasive pat downs and return to wanding-style searches of travelers. Although the change will initially apply only to travelers who pass through a body scanner, the fact that the federal agency is actively attempting to reduce the number of physical pat downs, the most controversial of which involve TSA screeners literally touching people’s genitals, represents a victory of sorts for anti-TSA campaigners. http://www.infowars.com/tsa-backlash-prompts-move-away-from-pat-downs/

Homeland Security in the Land of the Free
The horror stories about the Transportation Security Administration are indisputable. In the post 911 environment, civil liberties routinely ignored or eliminated, become a mere memory in a country that once prided itself as the beacon of freedom for the entire world. The TSA is part of the Department of Homeland Security. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is also an agency of DHS. The public relation spin for the purpose of such authorities is to protect citizens and guard the nation. The reality is that DHS bureaus have the same mission, keep the government safe from potential real or imaginary threats. Ventura’s Venture Against the TSA
Actually, it isn’t – at least to Our Rulers. And not just because they’re evil tyrants who spit on the Constitution. They are and they do, but what Mr. Ventura bumped up against is monstrously worse, something far more dangerous, entrenched, and systemic. Yet it remains so incognito and unsuspected that our hero might want to investigate it for his series, Conspiracy Theory, on TruTV. The culprit is a totalitarian nightmare known as “administrative law.” And when we victims assume the Constitution reigns supreme, Our Rulers laugh: they legally (even if unconstitutionally) replaced it about a century ago with administrative law. You’re undoubtedly more familiar with “administrative law” by its acronyms: IRS, BATF, DHS, DEA, SEC, FDA, FCC, FAA, TSA…in other words, bureaucrats. And yes, with their allergy to common sense, their ineptitude, and their unfathomable Jargon, bureaucrats are utterly worthless except as punch-lines. But they’re also responsible for most of the despotism smothering us, with scads of legal triumphs and precedents fortifying their dictatorship. http://lewrockwell.com/akers/akers170.html

The change in management of Bradley International Airport from the state to the new Connecticut Airport Authority cannot happen soon enough. Well, that’s tough – because it’s about to get worse. Since 2006, the TSA has been developing a $1 billion program called “Screening Passengers by Observation Techniques” whose proponents – notably, one Rafi Ron, an Israeli airline security “expert” – claim it enables screeners to detect dangerous passengers via nonverbal signals, including facial expressions. The program is undergoing a test run, starting today at Boston’s Logan airport. Irradiated in the USA
Today, news emerged that the TSA has been caught covering up a surge in cases of TSA workers developing cancer as a result of their close proximity to radiation-firing devices. The information came from the latest FOIA documents obtained by the Electronic Privacy Information Center. It really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. After all, think about when you go to get an X-ray at your doctors office. They put a heavy lead vest on you and try to just focus the X-ray on the part of the body they wish to investigate. Meanwhile, the doctor, nurse or X-ray specialist goes into a separate room behind protected glass. The Backscatters? The people being X-rayed are getting a full body X-ray… something that can really add up for frequent travellers (and part of the reason why a Pilot group has called for all pilots to refuse the Backscatter). Meanwhile, TSA agents stand literally feet away from the machine, being exposed to radiation hundreds of times per day. Now, I abhor the TSA and I dislike most of the types of people who tend to gravitate to jobs in the TSA – but even I am not in favor of irradiating them constantly, on purpose. http://www.dollarvigilante.com/blog/2011/6/28/irradiated-in-the-usa.html

Property Seized at Airports Sold for Profit
A beaming girl’s picture is encased in the snow globe, which is about the size of a grapefruit and rests atop an expensive-looking wooden base proclaiming, “Congratulations, graduate!” Alas, the graduate never received this gift. It rests amid a sea of San Antonio snow globes — and a few globes from Denver, Chicago and Disney World — on the shelves of the Texas State Surplus Store at 6506 Bolm Road, off U.S. 183. Because it’s filled with liquid, you can’t carry a snow globe onto an airplane. But some travelers haven’t gotten the message, or maybe it slips their minds during their harried packing for summer vacation. Thus, rows and rows of snow globes sit at the surplus store, which gets its inventory not only from state surplus but also from items that were left behind or confiscated — “We say willfully surrendered,” said cashier Roberta Siller — at airport security checkpoints in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, Waco, El Paso and other small airports. In the five years this store has been open, its plane-related inventory has soared because of heightened security, according to director James Barrington. The airport stuff takes up most of one small room at the store. In 2010, the state’s general fund was enriched $300,000 by the storefront’s sales. http://www.statesman.com/life/where-have-all-the-snow-globes-gone-to-1549784.html

Land of the Free Watch — TSA ‘Security Exercise’ Covers 3 States, 5,000 Miles
If you’re still living under the delusion that the TSA is just restricted to airports then think again. A joint VIPR “security exercise” involving military personnel has Transportation Security Administration workers covering 5,000 miles and three states, illustrating once again how the TSA is turning into a literal occupying army for domestic repression in America. The TSA, in alliance with a whole host of federal, state, local agencies as well as military personnel, is currently conducting a massive “security exercise” throughout Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. “The participating teams are composed of a variety of TSA assets including federal air marshals, canine teams, inspectors and bomb appraisal officers. They will be joined by state and local law enforcement officials to supplement existing resources, provide detection and response capabilities. The exercise will utilize multiple airborne assets, including Blackhawk helicopters and fixed wing aircraft as well as waterborne and surface teams,” reports the Marietta Times. Although the exercise is couched in serious rhetoric about preparedness, it relates to “no specific threat” and the details are nebulous to say the least and seems to revolve around little else than testing out high-tech surveillance equipment and reminding Americans who their bosses are. http://www.infowars.com/tsa-security-exercise-covers-3-states-5000-miles/

Pick your period – Texas’ Revolution with its inspiring cries of “Come and take it!” at Gonzales and “Remember the Alamo!” or the War of Northern Aggression that Lincoln prosecuted against states’ rights – and tell me the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) isn’t setting us up for a replay. “A threat from the federal government to shut down Texas airports or cancel flights may have killed legislation … in the Texas Capitol to prohibit federal Transportation Security Agents from conducting ‘invasive searches,’” the Texas Tribune reports. You remember this bill. You no doubt cheered when you heard that Rep. David Simpson, a Republican from Longview, TX, had introduced it in the state’s House a few weeks ago. It would have “subject[ed] federal employees, including TSA agents, to a Class A misdemeanor if they inappropriately touch someone seeking access to a public building or means of transportation, or if they search an individual without probable cause of criminal activity.” Joy erupted nationwide, not just across the half of it that’s Texas, at the thought of the TSA’s criminals finally being arrested as such. This outrageous statement recently was delivered to the American people by a DHS lawyer in arguments before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which is considering a challenge to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) nude body scanner devices. The suit was brought by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article27765.htm

Alaska State Rep Returns by Boat Rather Than Submit to Invasive TSA Search

Sharon Cissna
An Alaska state lawmaker is making her way back to the state capital of Juneau after refusing what she called an invasive pat-down search at a Seattle airport. Rep. Sharon Cissna, D-Anchorage, underwent a body scan as she was preparing to leave Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Sunday. In a statement released late Monday, she said scan results displayed – as they had during a prior episode three months earlier – the scars from her breast cancer. This caught the attention of the Transportation Safety Administration, Cissna said, but she refused to submit to the “invasive, probing hands of a stranger” this time. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/21/rep-sharon-cissna-tsa-patdown_n_825851.html

Can Jesse Ventura Force a TSA Submission?
It’s over three months now since the unelected political appointees heading the TSA made their sexually abusive Hobson’s choice mandatory for American airline customers: either step through a scanner whose potentially cancerous radiation lets TSA agents view your nude body, or adopt guilty-criminal, hands-in-the-air poses, while agents grope you head to toe, genitalia included. Two months since Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano suggested expanding this to all forms of mass transit. Eight weeks since the House of Representatives voted 417 to 3 in favour of House Resolution 28, supporting exactly that TSA expansion. And mere days since Barack Obama joked about the patdowns in his state of the union address. (Easy for him to laugh, as one of the privileged few exempt from the humiliations TSA imposes on his countrymen.) What about the rest of us Americans? I’m one who insists, along with others, “We won’t fly”, so long as TSA abuse remains part of the experience. Yet much of the media insists that makes us stubbornly selfish at best, prudishly insane at worst. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article27442.htm

TSA Invades Roads and Highways With VIPR Checkpoints
Up until now, commercial trucks and other vehicles only were subject to warrantless searches and radiation scans at specially designated “state-owned inspection stations” traditionally set up at rest stops next to highways. These internal checkpoints, run by Homeland Security, the Department of Transportation, and the TSA, involve trucks being scanned with backscatter x-ray devices in the name of “safety” and “counter terrorism”. These inspection stations are now being expanded to normal roads and highways, unleashing an army of TSA agents who will be given a free hand to litter America with internal checkpoints in a chilling throwback to Soviet-style levels of control over the population. http://www.infowars.com/tsa-invades-roads-highways-with-vipr-checkpoints/

The first is the state demonstrating its power and “right” to humiliate people into new levels submission, breaking their spirits and stripping them of their intelligence and willfullness. Time to End the Unconstitutional Scanner Scam
Let’s begin with one fact. We are using expensive, dangerous and illegal scanners in our airports for one reason. A year ago, single “terrorist,” really a moronic dupe with a defective bomb in his crotch was escorted onto a plane for Detroit, no search, no passport, not even a ticket, placed on a plane by an airport security officer who is a former IDF “commando.” These are the facts, plain and simple. The government depends on you not knowing this so you will let them either radiate you or grope you, you get to choose, next time you fly. In order to get away with this affront to decency and common sense, they hid the fact that their “terrorist act” never really happened. Everyone involved, airline personnel, security, all the video, the statements, the names of those who smuggled the “Crotch Bomber” through Schiphol Airport, all missing, vanished into thin air, along with the civil rights of over 300 million Americans. http://redactednews.blogspot.com/2010/11/gordon-duff-unconstitutional-time-to.html

Media Progressives, State Power, and the TSA
As one who grew up reading the Chattanooga Times most of my life, I have come to understand the so-called Progressivist mindset which takes an out-and-out religious view of state power (or state power in the hands of the “right” people). While the newspaper itself claims to be secular, there is no doubt that over the years, it has promoted the Religion of the “Progressive” State and State Power both in its news columns and on the editorial page. No paper excoriates the “gulf” between the wealthy and poor (except it champions George Soros, the billionaire champion of the hard left) than the TFP, and no paper is more politically correct when it comes to the usual feminist canards of sexual assault and the intrusions of state power into private exchange. Here is an editorial page that professes to worship at the shrine of “good government” to a point that is utterly predictable. So, I decided to do a search of its editorials to see if it had any editorial commentary on the airport assaults, and I will say that the editors took exactly the stand I thought they would take. The editorial writers that are quick to demand that Americans’ privacy be protected from “predatory” private enterprise suddenly declare that when we are bowing to the state, there is no privacy. http://www.lewrockwell.com/anderson/anderson301.html

TSA Gestapo Empire
With such expensive counter-terrorism activities, both in terms of the hard-pressed taxpayers’ money and civil liberties, one would think that bombs were going off all over America. But, of course, they aren’t. There has not been a successful terrorist act since 9/11, and thousands of independent experts doubt the government’s explanation of that event. Subsequent domestic terrorist events have turned out to be FBI sting operations in which FBI agents organize not-so-bright disaffected members of society and lead them into displaying interest in participating in a terrorist act. Once the FBI agent, pretending to be a terrorist, succeeds in prompting all the right words to be said and captured on his hidden recorder, the “terrorists” are arrested and the “plot” exposed. Standing Up to the TSA
Almost overnight, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has gone from national joke to national nightmare. Passengers used to laugh when screeners so inept they missed 60—75% of the fake bombs undercover investigators smuggled past them nonetheless proclaimed themselves gods. No one’s laughing now, though, as the TSA ogles us with carcinogenic technology and sexually assaults anyone who objects. Over 300 of the agency’s “naked” scanners lurk in 60-some airports nationwide, with more on the way; eventually, the agency will irradiate every passenger on every flight. These gizmos peer through clothing to photograph bodies in graphic detail. The TSA makes much of offering a “choice”: if you dislike posing nude for the government, its perverts will grope you instead — “prob[ing],” “prodding” and pushing “up your thighs and between your legs until we meet resistance” (and they don’t mean a slap in the face). The Terrorists Have Won
Ten years after 9/11, Americans who fly are facing a Faustian choice between subjecting themselves to a virtual (and potentially medically damaging) strip search conducted in questionable machines run by federal employees or a psychologically damaging pat-down of their bodies. Osama bin Ladin must be giggling himself silly this week. But what should we expect in a society that requires adults to wear bicycle helmets while pedaling in the park, provides disclaimers of liability on TV advertisements, or prints warnings on fast-food coffee cups? The name of the game is zero risk. Not risk mitigation, or accepting responsibility for one’s actions, but risk aversion. It’s a failure to acknowledge that we can’t protect against everything bad that can happen to us, so we must protect against everything we think might — might — be harmful at some point. The TSA has eviscerated liberty, dignity, modesty and everything decent since Day One. Remember ticket agents interrogating us about whether we’d packed our own bags (“You know, ma’am, hmmm, I think I had the upstairs maid handle it this time”), again per the FAA’s imbecilic dictates? The new procedure will be simpler, safer and quicker, a TSA spokesman told Mendax News Service. In order to maintain a sense of modesty and propriety, the new system will have two lines designated “Rams” and “Ewes” in which passengers will remove their clothing and put it on a conveyor for scanning by a TSA professional. The use of animal terms for male and female indicates which sex is appropriate for each line without specifying or mandating compliance, thus avoiding an anticipated challenge to the procedure based on sex discrimination. http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig11/sullivan-c1.1.1.html

Airport Body Scanners ‘Could Give You Cancer’, Warns Expert
Full body scanners at airports could increase your risk of skin cancer, experts warn. The X-ray machines have been brought in at Manchester, Gatwick and Heathrow. But scientists say radiation from the scanners has been underestimated and could be particularly risky for children. They say that the low level beam does deliver a small dose of radiation to the body but because the beam concentrates on the skin – one of the most radiation-sensitive organs of the human body – that dose may be up to 20 times higher than first estimated. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1290527/Airport-body-scanners-deliver-radiation-dose-20-times-higher-thought.html
