The Risk and Reward of Bitcoins
The official description of Bitcoin states: Bitcoin is an experimental, decentralized digital currency that enables instant payments to anyone, anywhere in the world. Bitcoin uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority managing transactions and issuing money carried out collectively by the network. Purported myths and ground rules on how the alternative currency operates, provides calculated reading. Whether this accounting system can or would be accepted as a credible medium of exchange on any large scale is certainly an open question.
The need for an alternative currency to fiat debt created tender is apparent. However, establishing faith and acceptance in a competing and digital method of payment for transactions is almost inconceivable to the average consumer. http://www.batr.org/negotium/041713.html

Secession Fever Sweeping Europe Meaningless Without Debt Repudiation
The first nations to repudiate sovereign debt will have the advantage; this is why restored nations should repudiate these debts and not burden their new national economy and citizens with this junk debt. In addition, these nations should repudiate their existing politicians and representatives, controlled by the financial elites who supported the debt accumulation; because once independence is restored there is nothing to stop politicians on the take from doing the same thing again. http://www.thedailybell.com/28196/Ron-Holland-Secession-Fever-Sweeping-Europe-Meaningless-Without-Debt-Repudiation

How to Identify the True Enemies of Freedom
Even the most successful battles against despotism, like the American Revolution, often only had a distant sense of who they were really fighting against. This is what makes the 21st Century extraordinarily unique in the annals of civilization. For the first time in human record, the common man has all the information necessary to examine and define the real culprits behind his subjugation. The truth is at our fingertips, all we have to do is reach out and take it. Because of the decentralized nature of information flowing through the alternative web media, our ability to generate opposition to organized elitism has never been greater. However, this also means the stakes have never been higher. The establishment understands well that their criminality is clearly visible, and eventually, they will be personally subject to the rage of the people. The next fight could very well be the last for them. Their playbook may be old, but the tactics they use can always be applied on a grander and more terrible scale. Not only will they pursue whatever menacing distractions necessary to occupy the attentions of the public, they will also attempt to pose as guiding lights in the darkness they themselves created. They will hide behind broad generalized target groups; fabricated boogie men, branded and prepackaged like franchise coffee shops on every street corner of America’s collective psyche. Terrorists, traitors, saboteurs, whatever ethnic group happens to be convenient at the moment, whoever is easiest to present as a target for our projected malice; false enemies will be rolled out like a nightmare buffet. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2012-10-10/guest-post-how-identify-true-enemies-freedom

Americans Reject the ‘Values’ of Ruling Elite
Billionaire Mortimer Zuckerman’s The Atlantic has conducted a poll with the Rockefeller and Ford (CIA) Foundation funded Aspen Institute and Penn, Schoen & Berland, a Bill Clinton connected market research and Democrat propaganda outfit. Not surprisingly, the poll “finds widespread mistrust of governing elites and an aversion to spreading U.S. norms abroad,” according to Conor Friedersdorf. “51 percent said America should neither try to spread its values nor learn from the values of other countries” and should basically mind its own business, as Ron Paul has advocated for decades. The Atlantic finds this mindset “intriguing” and recites the establishment litany claiming America saved the world following the Second World War and engaged in an “unprecedented effort to deliberately spread American values” far and wide. http://www.infowars.com/good-news-americans-reject-the-values-of-ruling-elite/

Look Back for the Future in Europe and America
History is getting ready to repeat itself and peoples and nations will once again be devastated by a depression born out of hidden excesses by banking elites and an unbearable level of sovereign debt created by “bought off” politicians. Whether the effects of a worldwide depression will again be countered by another world war is the only real question facing the world today. I believe the failed European Union is going down and this will be only a precursor to an identical economic collapse by the American Union. Of course the power elites will attempt to use the real or manufactured crisis as a pretext to expand the EU but I don’t believe they will succeed. The speed of events and flow of alternative news renders their old style propaganda powerless to keep up with and control public opinion today. http://lewrockwell.com/holland/holland63.1.html

The ‘Solution’ is Collapse
The basic idea is that when the carrying costs of the society exceed its output, the whole contraption collapses. The political adjunct to this systemic implosion is that the productive people just stop supporting the Status Quo because it’s become too burdensome. How Europe’s crisis resolves itself as yet remains unknown. But with Sunday’s returns from France and Greece, the mega-trends on the Old Continent are unmistakable. Saudi Arabia: House of Saud, Falling House of Cards
Saudi rulers are struggling to contain a new wave of public protests that has erupted across the Arabian kingdom as security forces open fire on unarmed civilians. The big question: is the House of Saud finally beginning to collapse like the fragile house of cards that this creaking, ruling monarchy represents? The irony is rich indeed. For the past year, the Saudi rulers have done their utmost to crush the slightest dissent in their country, while at the same time they have backed Western interference, aggression and regime change in Libya and Syria – under the guise, wait for it, of advocating democratic freedom and human rights. http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=29934

We commented on this in this past week, in “Kony 2012 Debunking Shows How Far Alternative Media Has Come.” But we wrote that article before the spectacular implosion of the “artistic creator” of the video, who apparently had a nervous breakdown due to the reception of the video and was sent to a psychiatric facility. http://lewrockwell.com/wile/wile48.1.html

Corporations Have No Use for Borders
The decay of Canada illustrates two things. Corporate power is global, and resistance to it cannot be restricted by national boundaries. Corporations have no regard for nation-states. They assert their power to exploit the land and the people everywhere. They play worker off of worker and nation off of nation. They control the political elites in Ottawa as they do in London, Paris and Washington. This, I suspect, is why the tactics to crush the Occupy movement around the globe have an eerie similarity—infiltrations, surveillance, the denial of public assembly, physical attempts to eradicate encampments, the use of propaganda and the press to demonize the movement, new draconian laws stripping citizens of basic rights, and increasingly harsh terms of incarceration. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article30390.htm

Why the Globalist Agenda is Backfiring
Think about it. The more people who lose their homes and material wealth in this manipulated downturn, the more people who stop, think and re-evalute. The more people who realize the financial and political situation is engineered for the good of a very few and not the people, the more wake up. The more people who are directly offended by these draconian new anti-freedom laws and intrusive surveillance methods, the more startled, questioning and activated they will become. And the more people who become aware it’s this way because that’s the way someone wants it, the more come to some alarming yet empowering conclusions. This is what the New World Order is unwittingly precipitating, and they’re seeing it and they’re afraid. Here’s their admission by an Illuminist global strategist and a hint at their sinister solution. http://poorrichards-blog.blogspot.com/2011/12/why-globalist-agenda-is-backfiring.html

Welcome to the revolution. Our elites have exposed their hand. They have nothing to offer. They can destroy but they cannot build. They can repress but they cannot lead. They can steal but they cannot share. They can talk but they cannot speak. They are as dead and useless to us as the water-soaked books, tents, sleeping bags, suitcases, food boxes and clothes that were tossed by sanitation workers Tuesday morning into garbage trucks in New York City. It’s the End of the Eurozone as We Know It
Stick a fork in it, the eurozone as we know it is done. That’s the message we’re hearing from every media outlet and talking head this morning. But whether the EU survives in its current incarnation or takes on a new form, the agenda remains the same, the evisceration of all national sovereignty and the centralization of power into a dictatorial federal superstate. Words like “depression,” “collapse,” and “apocalypse,” are not normally uttered by people in positions of power, but such terms have become the staple of this week’s news diet, as the deepening of the euro crisis begins to make headlines about Greece look like they should be consigned to the “and finally” segment. http://www.infowars.com/its-the-end-of-the-eurozone-as-we-know-it/

Gadhafi’s Gold-Money Plan Would Have Devastated Dollar
It remains unclear exactly why or how the Gadhafi regime went from “a model” and an “important ally” to the next target for regime change in a period of just a few years. But after claims of “genocide” as the justification for NATO intervention were disputed by experts, several other theories have been floated. Oil, of course, has been mentioned frequently — Libya is Africa‘s largest oil producer. But one possible reason in particular for Gadhafi’s fall from grace has gained significant traction among analysts and segments of the non-Western media: central banking and the global monetary system. According to more than a few observers, Gadhafi’s plan to quit selling Libyan oil in U.S. dollars — demanding payment instead in gold-backed “dinars” (a single African currency made from gold) — was the real cause. The regime, sitting on massive amounts of gold, estimated at close to 150 tons, was also pushing other African and Middle Eastern governments to follow suit. http://thenewamerican.com/economy/markets-mainmenu-45/9743-gadhafis-gold-money-plan-would-have-devastated-dollar

Banker Explained ‘Occupy America’ Scam
We are in the final stages of a long-term conspiracy by Cabalist Jewish bankers and their Masonic lackeys to erect a world police state, and to control us by mind control or force. This has been achieved by a contrived “dialectical process” best exemplified by World War Two and the Cold War. “Occupy Wall Street” is but the latest instance of this inexorable march to enslavement. Mass protests would be real if they demanded 1. Nationalizing the Fed, creation of debt-free currency and disowning that portion of the national debt created by book entry. 2. Independent investigation of 9-11 and prosecution of those responsible for the attack and the cover-up. 3. All national political campaigns be publicly funded. For the price of one battle cruiser, we could have real democracy. 4. Media monopolies be broken up. Is the New World Order Unraveling?
Why is the New World Order suddenly going in reverse? A primary reason is the resurgence of nationalism. Nations are putting national interests ahead of any perceived global interests. A second reason is the decline of a West whose project this was. We no longer dictate to the world, and the world no longer marches to our tune. The deficits and indebtedness of Western nations preclude more of the big wealth transfers in foreign aid that once bought us influence. A third reason is demography. Not one European nation has a birth rate sufficient to replace its population. Europe’s nations are aging, shrinking, dying. A depopulating Germany cannot carry forever the deficit-debtor nations of Club Med. The oldest nation, Japan, is on schedule to lose 25 million people by 2050, as is neighbor Russia. http://lewrockwell.com/buchanan/buchanan189.html

The crisis currently playing out on the world stage is a crisis of growth. Not, as we are regularly told, a crisis caused by too little growth, but by too much of it. Banks grew so big that their collapse would have brought down the entire global economy. To prevent this, they were bailed out with huge tranches of public money, which in turn is precipitating social crises on the streets of western nations. We’ve Been Warned: The System is Ready to Blow
A crisis that has been four decades in the making will not be solved overnight. It will be difficult to recast the global monetary system to ensure that the next few years see gradual recovery rather than depression. Wall Street and the City will resist all attempts at clipping their wings. There is strong ideological resistance to the policies that make decent wages in a full employment economy feasible: capital controls, allowing strong trade unions, wage subsidies, and protectionism. But this is a fork in the road. History suggests there is no iron law of progress and there have been periods when things have got worse not better. Together, the global imbalances, the manic-depressive behaviour of stock markets, the venality of the financial sector, the growing gulf between rich and poor, the high levels of unemployment, the naked consumerism and the riots are telling us something. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/aug/14/larry-elliott-global-financial-system

Perhaps the height of lawlessness was attained when the Obama regime announced that it had a list of American citizens who would be assassinated without due process of law. Bush, Dick Cheney, indeed, the entire Bush/Cheney regime, as well as Tony Blair and Bush’s other co-conspirators, would be standing before the International Criminal Court. Yet it is Gadaffi for whom the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants. Western powers are using the International Criminal Court, which is supposed to serve justice, for self-interested reasons that are unjust. What is Gadaffi’s crime? It cannot decide its economic policy; it can’t convince its own people of any good intent; the rule of law is imposed hard here – with the impounding of yachts bought through tax evasion – only to break down somewhere else, as people begin to pledge non-payment of bills for the privatised utilities. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-13783420

Even Bill Clinton Knows It’s Over
Bill Clinton – the examplar of truth in modern America – has proposed the establishment of a government “ministry of truth” – to be run by either the United States government or the United Nations – that would supervise the content of the Internet, requiring individuals and websites to conform to agency factual standards. Such a proposal is consistent with Hillary Clinton’s long-standing interest in establishing a government “gatekeeper” for the Internet; one that would prevent just anyone from putting their opinions out into the world. Apart from the obvious 1st Amendment/fascist/1984 Orwellian/marketplace of ideas implications of such an offering – a discussion which, I trust, needs no explication on this website – I am partially encouraged by Clinton’s suggestion. It demonstrates just how desperately and feverishly the political Establishment must go in futilely trying to resist its own demise. Like the erstwhile USSR, the American Empire is in a terminal condition; some of its constituents actively considering secession and/or nullification alternatives to national (and even international) hegemony. It is not surprising, therefore, that Bill would propose a similar state-run system of mind-control with which Soviet officials sought refuge from the irresistible forces of change. http://www.lewrockwell.com/shaffer/shaffer238.html

A European Generation Takes to the Streets
There is a feeling that unites young people throughout Europe, namely the belief that they will not be able to attain the same level of prosperity as their parents did. They feel that they have no future. They are well-trained, and yet they are not finding any jobs. This feeling has been smoldering for years, affecting the generation of “crisis children,” who grew up in a world shaped by economic and other crises, but who never took to the streets to fight for their interests. But a fundamental change is taking place. On March 12, 200,000 people marched down the Avenida de Liberdade, or Avenue of Freedom, in Lisbon. It was the biggest demonstration in Portugal since the 1974 Carnation Revolution, a march of the lost generation. http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/0,1518,767032,00.html

Welcome to the Violent World of Mr. Hopey Changey
When Britain lost control of Egypt in 1956, Prime Minister Anthony Eden said he wanted the nationalist president Gamal Abdel Nasser “destroyed … murdered … I don’t give a damn if there’s anarchy and chaos in Egypt”. Those insolent Arabs, Winston Churchill had urged in 1951, should be driven “into the gutter from which they should never have emerged”. The language of colonialism may have been modified; the spirit and the hypocrisy are unchanged. A new imperial phase is unfolding in direct response to the Arab uprising that began in January and has shocked Washington and Europe, causing an Eden-style panic. The loss of the Egyptian tyrant Mubarak was grievous, though not irretrievable; an American-backed counter-revolution is under way as the military regime in Cairo is seduced with new bribes and power shifting from the street to political groups that did not initiate the revolution. The Western aim, as ever, is to stop authentic democracy and reclaim control. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article28194.htm

In The Arab World And Elsewhere, People Are Resisting Washington’s One-Worldism
Today, nations seem everywhere to be coming apart. Is the future more likely to bring deepening global integration, or continued disintegration, as we saw with the collapse and breakup of Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia into 24 nations, separated along the lines of ethnicity, culture and faith? What America has on offer to the world is democratic pluralism. Unlike the Founding Fathers and every generation before 1960, all of which sought to keep us European and Christian, we declare to the world that diversity—religious, racial, ethnic, cultural, the more the better—is now the American ideal. In 1960, 97 percent of all Americans spoke English. Today, we take pride in the fact that Americans speak hundreds of languages. http://vdare.com/buchanan/110526_democratic_dawn.htm

Syrian Tinderbox
As Europe headed toward the first world war, lining up rival blocs of states and massing armies on borders, the focus of their escalating rivalry was centered in the Balkans. Indeed, after the Great War, the word “balkanization” was coined to indicate a hopelessly divided region seething with sectarian and nationalist tensions, and the “Balkan tinderbox” was a phrase often invoked by historians to describe the précis to the bloody slaughter. The Balkans of today’s world are undoubtedly the Middle East, and specifically the region once known as Greater Syria, which encompasses not only Syria but also Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and parts of Iraq. Here is the crossroads of the world, where the three great religions – Christianity, Judaism, and Mohammedanism – meet and merge in conterminous contention, elbowing and quarreling with one another in a multi-family feud that – more often than not – ends in bloodshed. http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2011/04/24/syrian-tinderbox/

The System Is A Social Disease
Western culture developed in its subjects a self-centered pursuit of personal gain and disrespect for social organization. Beyond wars, when community is identified as nation, the western program teaches i-me-mine to the exclusion of we-us-ours, unless addressing identity groups not yet fully market incorporated. Older cultures were treated as primitive for their communalism, their attachment to place and their lack of individualist obsession. After two weeks of imperialist attack, Libya is being mangled by Al Qaeda terrorists, civil war, NATO air raids, cruise missiles, Predator drones, and C-130 gunships – all made possible by the CIA-backed Al Qaeda rebels of Cyrenaica. US, British, French, and Dutch commandos have taken leadership of the rebel forces, and are arming them with modern weapons in flagrant violation of the arms embargo specified in UN Security Council resolution 1973. Al Qaeda is also stealing heavy weapons on its own, as the president of Chad has reported. The Arab Awakening, Hijacked?
Western attempts to hijack the Arab Awakening are necessarily limited to those countries – few in number – where Washington isn’t allied with the local tyrant. From the steppes of Central Asia, where US-supported potentates sit atop a growing proportion of the world’s oil supply, to the mouth of the Mediterranean, the American eagle has sheltered dozens of emirs, kings, and presidents-for-life under its overstretched wings. If the US winds up trading Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, and some of the Gulf states for Libya and possibly Syria, that’s a net loss by any accounting. Hillary Clinton’s State Department, a prime mover behind this war, is determined to reverse this trend. The idea is to turn the crisis into an opportunity for the expansion of US influence, and give the empire a much-needed buttressing. The President, confronted with the full-bore self-righteousness of the “humanitarian” crowd on his left, and amid rising cries of “Who lost Libya?” on his right, realized he was politically boxed in, and retreated from the field. http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2011/04/03/the-arab-awakening-hijacked/

When David Horowitz starts throwing around the label “neoconservative” as if it were a four-letter word, you know a real schism is at hand. That’s because right-wing jihad hunters like Horowitz, Caroline Glick and others are reaching levels of near hysteria over the prospect of Islamic movements gaining political power in a post-revolution Middle East, particularly right now in Egypt. Sure, they believe everyone has the inalienable right to freedom, but not if they live on “hostile soil” or when it is not in America’s “core regional interests.” Under those circumstances, the despots and dictators—as long as they are pro-western and maintain vital security agreements with Israel—are always preferred. http://original.antiwar.com/vlahos/2011/03/28/jihad-hunters-vs-the-neocons/

Obama Doesn’t Get It
Barack Obama, the US president, has still not fully grasped the essence of the revolutions underway in the Arab world. He genuinely seems to believe that the people rallying for democracy in the region are making a pro-Western, if not pro-Israeli, statement. “All the forces that we’re seeing at work in Egypt are forces that naturally should be aligned with us, should be aligned with Israel – if we make good decisions now and we understand sort of the sweep of history,” Obama recently told a group of Democrats in Florida. I am not sure how Obama drew this conclusion, but he is either terribly misinformed or engaged in a serious bout of wishful thinking. His statements, however, echo the assessments of many American pundits, some of whom have been celebrating the fact that anti-Israeli or American slogans have not dominated the recent and ongoing uprisings. It is true that the protesters are not focusing on Israel. But to say that these forces could be natural allies of Israel and the West is to take a huge leap into a highly inaccurate assessment of the situation. The fiction of “Libya” is falling by the wayside. What will succeed it remains an open question. However, Western intervention, if and when it occurs, cannot bring stability to a “nation” that never really existed in the first place. The great Arab Awakening now sweeping North Africa and the Middle East is not only bringing down the old order of Western-supported dynasties, and tinpot dictators of Gadhafi’s ilk – it is also erasing arbitrary borders drawn by Western colonizers and Ottoman caliphs, and redrawing them to reflect underlying realities more accurately. Any attempt by the West to intervene, and favor one outcome over another, is bound to draw the ire of indigenous peoples – and redirect their anger away from local despots, and towards us. http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2011/03/13/libya-does-not-exist/

The Embarrassments of Empire
From Egypt to Pakistan, February 2011 will be remembered as a month unusually full of the embarrassments of empire. Americans were enthralled by a spectacle of liberty in which we felt we should somehow be playing a part. Here were popular movements toward self-government, which might once have looked to the United States as an exemplar, springing up all across North Africa and the Middle East. Why did they not look up to us now? The answer became clearer with every equivocal word of the Obama administration, and every false step it took in trying to manage the crisis. A person suffers embarrassment when something true about himself emerges in spite of reasonable efforts to conceal it. It is the same with nations. Sovereign nations are abstract entities, of course — they cannot have feelings as people do — but there are times when they would blush if they could. http://www.tomdispatch.com/blog//175365/

Fed Monetization is a Political Power Tool
The result of Western intervention in the Middle East has been and will continue to be a collective general collapse of current regimes. The replacement will supposedly be populist governments, when in fact that will not be the case. From behind the scenes will emerge leadership tied to the CIA, MI6 and the Mossad. These new governments will look like they are anti-west and anti-capitalist, but that will not be the case. Their overthrows have been in the works for years and all the new players are in place. Unrest will probably continue over several months perhaps for a year. A solution will be found for Libya and the West hopes their puppet regime in Saudi Arabia stays in place. Nigeria has its own problems and seems calm except for the ongoing civil war between Christians and Muslims. That has been progress for 50 years between the Ibo and the Hunza tribes. Iraqi Protests Make Washington Squirm
Unlike Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and other Arab states for which the United States has been blamed for giving dictators aid and comfort over the years, Washington is much more directly responsible for the conditions Iraqis are fighting against today. It armed and trained Iraqi security forces to look just like American security forces. Roots of the Arab Revolts and Premature Celebrations
Most accounts of the Arab revolts from Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Yemen, Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq and elsewhere have focused on the most immediate causes: political dictatorships, unemployment, repression and the wounding and killing of protestors. They have given most attention to the “middle class”, young, educated activists, their communication via the internet and, in the case of Israel and its Zionists conspiracy theorists, “the hidden hand” of Islamic extremists. What is lacking is any attempt to provide a framework for the revolt which takes account of the large scale, long and medium term socio-economic structures as well as the immediate ‘detonators’ of political action. The scope and depth of the popular uprisings, as well as the diverse political and social forces which have entered into the conflicts, preclude any explanations which look at one dimension of the struggles. http://dissidentvoice.org/2011/03/roots-of-the-arab-revolts-and-premature-celebrations/

How Will America Handle the Fall of Its Middle East Empire?
Today, it is reasonable to ask whether the United States, seemingly invincible a decade ago, will follow the same trajectory. America has suffered two convulsive blows in the last three years. The first was the financial crisis of 2008, whose consequences are yet to be properly felt. Although the immediate cause was the debacle in the mortgage market, the underlying problem was chronic imbalance in the economy. For a number of years, America has been incapable of funding its domestic programmes and overseas commitments without resorting to massive help from China, its global rival. China has a pressing motive to assist: it needs to sustain US demand in order to provide a market for its exports and thus avert an economic crisis of its own. This situation is the contemporary equivalent of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), the doctrine which prevented nuclear war breaking out between America and Russia. Unlike MAD, this pact is unsustainable. But Barack Obama has not sought to address the problem. Instead, he responded to the crisis with the same failed policies that caused the trouble in the first place: easy credit and yet more debt. It is certain that America will, in due course, be forced into a massive adjustment both to its living standards at home and its commitments abroad. This matters because, following the second convulsive blow, America’s global interests are under threat on a scale never before seen. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/peteroborne/100077625/how-will-america-handle-the-fall-of-its-middle-east-empire/

Behind the Arab Revolt Is a Word We Dare Not Speak
As the Washington historian William Blum has documented, since 1945, the US has destroyed or subverted more than 50 governments, many of them democracies, and used mass murderers like Suharto, Mobutu and Pinochet to dominate by proxy. In the Middle East, every dictatorship and pseudo-monarchy has been sustained by America. In “Operation Cyclone,” the CIA and MI6 secretly fostered and bankrolled Islamic extremism. The object was to smash or deter nationalism and democracy. The victims of this western state terrorism have been mostly Muslims. The courageous people gunned down last week in Bahrain and Libya, the latter a “priority UK market,” according to Britain’s official arms “procurers,” join those children blown to bits in Gaza by the latest American F-16 aircraft. The revolt in the Arab world is not merely against a resident dictator but a worldwide economic tyranny designed by the US Treasury and imposed by the US Agency for International Development, the IMF and World Bank, which have ensured that rich countries like Egypt are reduced to vast sweatshops, with half the population earning less than $2 a day. Governments are toppling, buildings are ablaze and protesters are “speak-to-tweeting” their way to freedom…of a sort. But what about closer to home, back in the belly of the empire? It’s one thing for far-flung outposts to collapse, for the “uncivilized,” “unwashed” masses beyond the gates to storm their capital buildings and raise hell. But surely that couldn’t happen here, could it? Of course it could. The existence of the state virtually guarantees it! http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig12/bowman-joel1.1.1.html

They’re Doing It Without Us
The ongoing upheaval in the Arab world (and in Iran) has rendered a definitive judgment on U.S. policy over the last decade. Relying on their own resources and employing means of their own devising, the people of the Middle East intent on transforming that region have effectively consigned the entire “war on terror” to the category of strategic irrelevance. http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-bacevich-war-20110220,0,1400493.story

Evo Morales
Bolivian President Evo Morales has abruptly abandoned a mining town after protesters angered by rising prices booed him and set off dynamite. Morales was due to speak on the anniversary of a colonial uprising in Oruro but canceled plans to participate in a march yesterday after demonstrations against rising food prices and shortages.
