Brave New World Revisited

aa-1984 - freedumbville great one I was sitting in the waiting room at Jiffy Lube this morning reading my used copy of Brave New World Revisited by Aldous Huxley that I bought in Wildwood a couple weeks ago. As other people were tapping away on their iGadgets, I was reading words that just blew me away with their simplicity of reason and prophecy of everything that has come to pass 56 years after he wrote them. His assessment of our loss of freedom and liberty as central government and corporations gained more control was 100% accurate. With every sentence I read, I realize Huxley was the most important thinker of the 20th century. I was going to post some quotes from the book and did a search to see if I could find some easily. Instead I found the entire book online. I urge everyone to read it. Land of the Free Watch: Supreme Court Refuses Challenge to NDAA Indefinite Detention of Americans

aa-NDAA - poster The Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal against the clause of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which, the plaintiffs argue, allows for indefinite detention of Americans by the military. The case has been ongoing for two years, but ultimately ended in defeat Monday as the highest court effectively killed off the lawsuit, despite previous district court declarations that the legislation is harmful to the First Amendment and that Americans worried about being militarily detained had a “reasonable fear”. In a statement, Tangerine Bolen, one of the plaintiffs said “We are no longer a nation ruled by laws.” “We are nation ruled by men who have so steeped themselves in a false narrative that at the same time they are exponentially increasing the ranks of terrorists, they are destroying the rule of law itself. It is madness upon madness—the classic tale of becoming the evil you purport to fight while believing you remain righteous.” Bolen added. The case was brought by a group of journalists led by Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Chris Hedges. 31 Flavors of Fascism

aa-fascism - 31 flavors I’ve been called a fascist roughly six million times, and though I feel it’s an inaccurate description of my beliefs and temperament, I can see how people might get that impression. Following WWII, the term “fascist” has almost always been used as a pejorative. The crushing defeat of the Axis Powers somehow forever “discredited” fascist ideology, but as far as I can tell, WWII only proved that the more efficient killing machine always wins and that might makes right, which would seem to buttress rather than undermine fascism—at least in practice if not in ideology. Even before WWII ended, George Orwell was lamenting how the term “fascist” was overused to the point that it was “meaningless.” He said the most apt synonym for “fascist” was “bully,” but he cautioned against flinging the term with reckless impunity against those with whom one simply disagreed. Obama’s NSA Speech Makes Orwellian Surveillance Patriotic

But in his speech on reforms to the NSA and the United States’ intelligence gathering systems last week, President Obama had a creative new addition to the legacy of the American Revolution: surveillance. “At the dawn of our Republic, a small, secret surveillance committee borne out of the Sons of Liberty was established in Boston,” said the president. “And the group’s members included Paul Revere. At night, they would patrol the streets, reporting back any signs that the British were preparing raids against America’s early Patriots.” Collecting the meta-data of billions of phone calls and 200 million text messages a day, as well as gathering data through the government’s PRISM program and placing bugs in 100,000 computers all over the world seems significantly more extensive than monitoring British troop movement via horseback and candlestick – especially when you consider that the data being collected is in large part that of the American people, not a foreign enemy during war time. Such metadata information would still be collected and stored in President Obama’s “reformed” NSA. The reforms proposed by the President’s speech amount to nothing short of a bouquet of roses for American intelligence agencies. The changes detailed in the speech do almost nothing to actually rein in the growing national surveillance state. Billions of phone calls by Americans would still be collected and retained every single day – too much information for even the NSA to wade through properly. A Conspiracy So Vast

Earlier this week, The Washington Post reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now spying on us. It seems that the FBI, no doubt jealous of the unpunished lawlessness of the NSA, has acquired software that permits it to utilize the tiny cameras in many home computers to observe whoever or whatever may be in front of the computer screen. The FBI doesn’t only look at whoever is using the computer screen; it also captures the words and images on the screen. It seems to have an affinity for monitoring online gaming, even the lawful variety. In 1949, when George Orwell predicted in his terrifying novel “1984″ the future use of television sets to watch us in our homes, many thought he was a delusional paranoid. It turns out that he was just off by a generation. His predictions have come to pass. Like many growing conspiracies, this one has spawned others. The Washington Post also reported this week that local cops, too, are jealous of the NSA and its ability to break the law with impunity. A huge quotient of the seemingly endless cultural and ideological wars hinges on how terms are defined. Those who claim authority to declare what words mean are able to shape public thinking like a sculptor molds clay. Although facts—which are what news organizations are supposed to peddle—seem immutable , words are forever in flux. Both “liberal” and “progressive” now mean almost the opposite of what they did a century ago. Orwell’s Nightmare is Coming True

I’m an optimist on the future of technology. But the way a lot of it is going to be applied by people in government is a different question. The current developments are quite disturbing, especially the emerging capability of police to use cameras and computers to scan millions and millions of people and identify individuals in seconds. They say it’s to track sex offenders or catch terrorists, but what’s clearly at stake here is the universal monitoring of everyone all the time – just like in 1984. Mother, Should I Trust the Government?

When the men in smoke filled rooms realized their soft totalitarianism was losing its grip on the oblivious, submissive, egoistical, distracted masses, they began phase two of their effort to retain their wealth, power and control. Oliver Stone: U.S. Has Become an Orwellian State

There has been a blind worship of the military and patriotism. I strongly believe in the strong military, but to defend our country, not to invade other countries and to conquer the world. I think there is a huge difference that has been forgotten: morality. Once you take the laws away, as Einstein once said famously, the country does not obey its laws, the laws would be disrespected. Spy Agency Conducts Surveillance on All U.S. Citizens

The Obama administration overruled recommendations from within the U..S Department of Homeland Security and implemented new guidelines earlier this year that allow the government to gather and analyze intelligence on every single U.S. citizen. Since the spring, a little-know intelligence agency outside of Washington, D.C. has been able to circumvent the Fourth Amendment to the U.S Constitution and conduct dragnet surveillance of the entire country, combing massive datasets using advanced algorithms to search and seize personal info on anyone they wish, reports the Wall Street Journal this week. There’s no safeguard that says only Americans with criminal records are the ones included, and it’s not just suspected terrorists that are considered in the searches either. As prescient as Orwell was, I’m not sure if he wouldn’t have been somewhat astonished at the extent to which such savagely cruel methods have proven to be generally unnecessary mere decades later. A man of his time, Orwell saw sadistic boot-in-the-face uber-Stalinism as the ever-cresting wave of the future. But today, with the Soviet Union long dead and anti-white multicultural heterodoxy ascendant in the degenerate West, economic Marxism rejected for favor of cultural Marxism, Big Brother’s methodology has evolved. China: The New Bin Laden

Hillary Clinton, the low-grade moron who is US Secretary of State, is busy at work making China the new enemy of Oceania. China is Amerika’s largest creditor, but this did not inhibit the idiot Hilary from, this week in front of high Chinese officials, denouncing China for “human rights violations” and for the absence of democracy. While Hilary was enjoying her rant and displaying unspeakable Amerkan hypocrisy, Homeland Security thugs had organized local police and sheriffs in a small town that is the home of Western Illinois University and set upon peaceful students who were enjoying their annual street party. There was no rioting, no property damage, but the riot police or Homeland Security SWAT teams showed up with sound cannons, gassed the students and beat them. Indeed, if anyone pays any attention to what is happening in Amerika today, a militarized police and Homeland Security are destroying constitutional rights of peaceful assembly, protest, and free speech. For practical purposes, the U.S. Constitution no longer exists. The police can beat, taser, abuse, and falsely arrest American citizens and experience no adverse consequences. The executive branch of the federal government, to whom we used to look to protect us from abuses at the state and local level, acquired the right under the Bush regime to ignore both US and international law, along with the US Constitution and the constitutional powers of Congress and the judiciary. As long as there is a “state of war,” such as the open-ended “war on terror,” the executive branch is higher than the law and is unaccountable to law. By picking on smaller, less able opponents, they develope the idea that they are unbeatable, and no one can challange them. It started with the War with Spain. Japan/Germany were both a shock, hence only going after nations like Panama, Grenada, Iraq, Libya. The last time USA went after China, or a nation supported by China, was Korea. Look what happened there! Same with Viet Nam. They were initially supported by both China and Soviet Union. Again, look what happened! If Komrade Klinton and Komrade Obama are so intent on "going after" China, or Russia, let them lead the way. FROM THE FRONT! Let Obama take point, along with Klinton, to prove she is as able as a man. Good luck with that fantasy! I say we elect Ron Paul. Then arrest, prosecute all past/present members of the Republicrats in office since Reagan. Reinstate the Constitution, and give the people the power, throgh referendums, to decide foreign policy and military actions, other than defending against an attack. Americans Are Living In 1984

If bin Laden beat all odds and managed to live another decade to await, unarmed and undefended, the arrival of the Navy SEALS last week, how it is possible that the “terror mastermind,” who defeated not merely the CIA and FBI, but all 16 US intelligence agencies along with those of America’s European allies and Israel, the National Security Council, the Pentagon, NORAD, Air Traffic Control, airport security four times on the same morning, etc. etc., never enjoyed another success, not even a little, very minor one? What was the “terror mastermind” doing for a decade after 9/11? The “death of bin Laden” serves too many agendas that cover the political spectrum for the obvious falsity of the story to be recognized by very many. Patriots are euphoric that America won over bin Laden. Progressives have seized on the story to excoriate the United States for extra-judicial murder that brutalizes us all. Some on the left-wing bought into the 9/11 story because of the emotional satisfaction they received from oppressed Arabs striking back at their imperialist oppressors. These left-wingers are delighted that it took the incompetent Americans an entire decade to find bin Laden, who was hiding in plain view. 2011: A Brave New Dystopia

The two greatest visions of a future dystopia were George Orwell’s “1984” and Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World.” The debate, between those who watched our descent towards corporate totalitarianism, was who was right. Would we be, as Orwell wrote, dominated by a repressive surveillance and security state that used crude and violent forms of control? Or would we be, as Huxley envisioned, entranced by entertainment and spectacle, captivated by technology and seduced by profligate consumption to embrace our own oppression? It turns out Orwell and Huxley were both right. Huxley saw the first stage of our enslavement. Orwell saw the second. We have been gradually disempowered by a corporate state that, as Huxley foresaw, seduced and manipulated us through sensual gratification, cheap mass-produced goods, boundless credit, political theater and amusement. While we were entertained, the regulations that once kept predatory corporate power in check were dismantled, the laws that once protected us were rewritten and we were impoverished. Now that credit is drying up, good jobs for the working class are gone forever and mass-produced goods are unaffordable, we find ourselves transported from “Brave New World” to “1984.” The state, crippled by massive deficits, endless war and corporate malfeasance, is sliding toward bankruptcy. It is time for Big Brother to take over from Huxley’s feelies, the orgy-porgy and the centrifugal bumble-puppy. DHS Praises Chicago’s Spy Cameras

Dictatorship Watch: Pre-Crime Technology To Be Used In Washington D.C.

Law enforcement agencies in Washington D.C. have begun to use technology that they say can predict when crimes will be committed and who will commit them, before they actually happen. The Minority Report like pre-crime software has been developed by Richard Berk, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Previous incarnations of the software, already being used in Baltimore and Philadelphia were limited to predictions of murders by and among parolees and offenders on probation.
